April General Meeting:

Entrepreneurship: The Key to Women's Economic Empowerment with Almaz Negash, Managing Director, Women's Initiative for Self Employment

Wednesday, April 23, 2008
5:50pm - 8:00pm

Almaz Negash, Managing Director, Women’s Initiative, Silicon Valley

Every day, the economic news gets more and more troubling. A housing crisis. Stock market gyrations. Job cuts and downsizing. Plus, spiraling food and fuel costs are leading to record inflation rates. What can you do to ensure your own economic security in the face of such uncertainty?

The answer: start your own business! Women-owned businesses are the fastest growing segment of the entrepreneurship industry and have led to a profound level of empowerment for women, not just in the U.S. but around the globe. Even if you are a veteran corporate professional, having your own business (even on the side!) is one of the absolute best ways to ensure your own future economic security.

Join Almaz Negash, Managing Director of Women's Initiative, Silicon Valley, as she provides a global look at how entrepreneurship has empowered and enhanced the lives of women around the world and how it can help you transform your own economic circumstances.

Almaz Negash, Managing Director, is responsible for operations and fundraising efforts for Women’s Initiative, Silicon Valley.  Almaz was a Center Fellow at Santa Clara University's Markkula Center for Applied Ethics, where she spearheaded the Ethics of Immigration and Migration Project.  Almaz is co-author of Awakening Social Responsibility  and has written articles and conducted researched on women and economic empowerment, educating women and children as a means to reduce global poverty and gender inequality.
Almaz Negash is a founding member and on the faculty of the Global Women Leadership Network at Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University.  She also serves on the Board of Greater San Jose Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.  Almaz holds an MBA from Golden Gate University and a B.A. in International Business from University of San Francisco.
